MOUNT TABOR ECUMENICAL CENTRE PRESENTS
The Marble Becomes Flesh
A journey through the ancient medieval mysteries, which tell the story of the ambo of the Cathedral of Barga

Barga (LU) – On the evenings of October 3, 4, 5, at 21.00, members from Elements Theatre Company will present mystery plays and readings of poetry at the Duomo, San Cristofero. Exploring the theme of “the Christ-bearer” in Barga, the presentations will center on figures such as St. Christopher and St. Francis; as well as themes expressed on the Duomo’s historic ambo, including the Annunciation, Visitation, Birth of Christ and Visit of the Magi. The mystery plays, some of the earliest forms of theatre in medieval Europe, will be presented in traditional Latin, interspersed with early music.

Elements Theatre Company is an ensemble of 16 actors from the Community of Jesus in Orleans, Massachusetts, USA. Elements has performed and studied in North America, and Europe. Performance highlights include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, Cherry Orchard, Pillars of the Community, A Christmas Carol, God of Carnage, The Dining Room, Rumors, Lion in Winter and Lady Windermere’s Fan. The company maintains an active training program, with intensive professional studies in London, New York, Chicago and Orleans. These actors hold up the mirror for themselves and in turn give us, the audience, the courage to look into that mirror too, and not shy away from what we find.”
