Radices in Theatrum

Theatre, the seeing place, finds some of its roots in religion. The Greeks and Romans used it in their worship and it was also a very vital element in the early days of Christian worship. Elements Theatre Company has explored these roots in the form of the medieval mystery plays: authentic and simple re-enactments in Latin of events in the life of Christ (his birth, miracles, and resurrection), and in the lives of the saints. Under the direction of Danielle Dwyer, CJ, Elements has offered these mystery plays at home in the Church of the Transfiguration in Orleans, and in the Tuscan cities of Barga, Florence, Pisa, Siena, and Pistoia, in conjunction with lectures and symposiums organized by the Mount Tabor Ecumenical Centre, led by Msgr Timothy Verdon.
