Il Marmo Si Fa Carne
The Marble Becomes Flesh
October 2014
Summary
Mount Tabor Ecumenical Centre presented The Marble Becomes Flesh, a journey through the ancient medieval mysteries, which tell the story of the ambo of the Cathedral of Barga.
Barga (LU)—On the evenings of October 3, 4, 5, at 21.00, members from Elements Theatre Company presented mystery plays and readings of poetry at the Duomo, San Cristofero. Exploring the theme of “the Christ-bearer” in Barga, the presentations centered on figures such as St. Christopher and St. Francis, as well as themes expressed on the Duomo’s historic ambo, including the Annunciation, Visitation, Birth of Christ, and Visit of the Magi. The mystery plays, some of the earliest forms of theatre in medieval Europe, were presented in traditional Latin, interspersed with early music.
The Mount Tabor Ecumenical Centre for Spirituality and the Arts promotes visual and performing arts, organizes educational programs, and facilitates ecumenical exchange. It organizes study visits and international symposia, promotes dialogue on monastic history and spirituality in the arts, and presents exhibits of contemporary sacred art, choral concerts, and theatre productions.
